What We Do

Strengthening Groveland Through the Power of Reading

Our volunteer-driven programs bridge the literacy gap, connect neighbors across generations, and ensure that every resident has free access to the knowledge and stories that shape informed citizens.

📚

Children's Story Hours

Weekly interactive story time sessions for children ages two through seven, featuring read-aloud performances by trained volunteer readers, tactile craft activities reinforcing narrative comprehension, and age-appropriate phonics exercises. Our certified early childhood literacy coordinators design seasonal curricula aligned with Massachusetts Early Learning Standards, ensuring every child develops the foundational decoding skills and love of narrative that predict long-term academic success. Sessions run Tuesday and Thursday mornings from September through June, with special summer reading marathon events held outdoors on the library lawn.

Digital Literacy Lab

Our Technology Access Initiative provides free computer training workshops for seniors and adults, covering essential digital skills from email and internet safety to online banking, telehealth appointment scheduling, and government service portals. Each eight-week cohort pairs participants with patient, one-on-one volunteer technology mentors. The program also maintains a lending library of fifteen Chromebook laptops and ten tablet devices available for two-week checkout, ensuring that lack of personal hardware never becomes a barrier to digital participation in modern civic and economic life.

What Our Members and Neighbors Say

The Friends organization thrives because of the passionate people who give their time, talent, and resources to keep our library vibrant.

"My twin daughters discovered their love of reading through the Tuesday morning story hours. The volunteers remember every child's name, favorite characters, and reading milestones. It feels like an extended family, not just a library program. We have donated every year since, knowing exactly where those dollars go."

Jennifer M.

Parent & Annual Member since 2019

"After retiring from thirty-two years of teaching high school English, I was looking for a meaningful way to stay connected. Volunteering at the homework help desk three afternoons a week has been the most rewarding chapter of my career. These kids just need someone who believes in them."

Robert T.

Retired Educator & Volunteer Tutor

"The Digital Literacy Lab changed my relationship with technology completely. Before the workshops, I could barely send an email. Now I video-call my grandchildren in California every Sunday morning and manage my prescriptions through the pharmacy app. I cannot thank the volunteers enough."
